Data Governance Framework and Operating Model

When I started working at MetLife, I understood the data governance team was geared towards technical data governance rather than business focused. I led team with the initiative of revamping how our team operates with the business and IT. I worked with my team internally and other external teams to understand the current landscape of the company and how the processes are currently laid out. This helped us determine how to create a new framework with a lean and efficient operating model. I created a framework that would involve business, IT, and other data teams to work with us and be able operate successfully within the data analytics organization. The essence of creating this framework was for the DG team to show we are thinking end to end data lineage, show transparency, and ultimately be able to trust the data. My team and I were able to successfully test the framework within the Agile methodology and launched the model with several business teams to capture data, profile, and catalog for ease of use.

Standardization of customer data from data collection through universal forms to reporting customer sales

I worked with over 20 Business Units to understand and gather information on different existing customer intake processes for 5 different source systems. Based on the information that was gathered, I conducted analysis to find commonalities between each individual process between units, look for ways to improve the efficiency in the processes, and to create a standard intake form while instilling standardization rules to improve the quality of data. From the analysis, I was able to deduce the number of intake forms from 7 to 2 standard forms that can be used universally depending upon the location of the business unit. I produced over 40 standardization rules to control the data quality from the beginning to alleviate the issues of duplication, bad data integrity, data harmonization across multiple systems, and overall ease of use for reporting. I conducted tests using the 2 forms across multiple units, reduced the customer intake time process time from 8 days to 2 days, deduplicated customers’ accounts by 20% for all that are active over 5 years, and decreased the time to produce accurate sales reporting by 5 days.

Strategizing Data Privacy and Security Process to onboard External Service Providers

I worked with legal team, vendor management, data privacy, and cyber security team to put together a questionnaire and a process on how to onboard the external providers. The team built a process to understand what kind of data will be passed on, how the data will be transmitted, how to protect if classified data is being used, and how to store the data once the data is sent through a secure protocol. This process is created to help with any potential security breaches and for any potential legal issues that may come about. Also, this process will help with the data masking and accessibility of the data that may be available to external vendors and the employees within the organization. Using these processes and a questionnaire developed by the team, we have successfully onboarded 5 different vendors.

Created data pipelines from data sources for address validation, deduplication, improving data quality for reporting and analytics.

I started off my career as an ETL developer with heavy focus on Master Data Management (MDM). I worked in several different projects creating data pipelines for data migrations from legacy environment to modern stack, conducting data harmonization for M&A for companies, and deduplication to improve data quality with focus on address validations. For these projects, I've used different tools such as MS SQL Server, SAP BODS, Alteryx, and Informatica to develop the pipelines and reporting. I have created dashboards on top of these reports using Power BI tool for ease of use for leadership to see the improvements within their data and for business decision process.
